Local Businesses Rule CONTEST

We had a great Social Media Breakfast Maine last week with Becky McCray, author of Small Town Rules, and Suzanne Madore, President at South Portland Buy Local. We had so much fun, we just don’t want it to end… so we thought we would have a little contest.

Leave us a comment on this blog post and tell us a local Maine business you think is doing a great job using technology to market themselves*.
Friday morning (8/31/12) we will pick one RANDOM comment as our winner.

The commenter will win:

Small Town Rules and Big-Box Swindle book covers

Easy enough right? So comment away!

Thank you Longfellow books and South Portland Buy Local for the giveaway items.

* What are we going to do with the businesses you tell us about? We will check them out, ‘Like’ them on Facebook and possibly reach out to them in the future to be a SMBME speaker, to feature in a Tech Trends report with WMTW, to write about on this blog or we may just send them some good local vibes.

I may be a little biased but I would suggest that the Saco Drive-In and Funtown/Splashtown USA both do a great job communicating to their customers through social media.

Roost House of Juice posted a kickstarter video to get their business up and running. They opened last week and are using facebook (

I think the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society does an amazing job on Facebook. They update you on the lives they’ve saved each night and are always posting pics of deserving animals that need a home. I think they post great content and the use of visuals is really engaging! They have me wanting a new puppy every week!

I believe the Red does a great job of communicating with their customers through social media. They post pictures, events and updates several times per week and are always doing something for the community then sharing it on Facebook. They have created a type of ‘contest’ to see who can post a photo wearing red barn gear from the first distance (different continents and countries). People post their pictures often and it creates a hype about the restaurant.

I apologize, I am posting from my phone. I meant to say “The Red Barn”.

We think SMB Maine is doing an exemplary job with technology! Because you are probably looking for an organization besides yourselves…. we nominate JobsinME.com. for the way they utilize Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, You Tube, newsletters, email communications, etc. to champion local businesses and add value.
